The mission of the Delta Society® is to improve human health through therapy and service animals. They work to increase awareness of the positive effects of animals, reduce the barriers that prevent the involvement of animals in everyday life, and expand the therapeutic and service roles of animals in human health, service and education.
The Pet Partners® Program is a service program of the Delta Society. There are more than 8,000 Pet Partners (people-animal volunteer teams) working in communities nationally bringing the physical and emotional benefits of human-animal interactions to people in a variety of settings. In order to register as Pet Partners you and your dog must have completed the training requirements set by the Delta Society to assure health and human service providers that the volunteers who enter their facilities are well prepared and that the animals have been carefully screened.
We are proud to offer a Pet Partners Team Training Workshop with licensed Delta Society Instructors Kathy Shea and Grace Terwilliger. This 12 hour course is taught in two six hour sessions and is for handlers only. The goals for the course are to:
Ř Provide a complete understanding of Delta Society’s key expectations and a detailed and specific game plan for targeting those expectations.
Ř Map out and organize the scope of being a registered Delta Society Pet Partners team; including volunteer responsibilities, being your dog’s advocate, facilities and settings in which to visit, regulations and policies and visit techniques.
Ř Provide tools, techniques and recommendations for best practices, as well as facilitated discussions, exercises and simulations.
Ř Provide an understanding on how to visit with your dog, step-by-step, by successfully implementing the best practices for visiting in a variety of facilities and settings.
